Bedtime Routine

Bedtime can be heaven or hell on Earth in your household. Here are some tips to make bedtime a little heaven on Earth. Knowing that those sweet babies will fall asleep quickly and on time and you and your spouse can have that much needed alone time.
1. Have a routine set in place that the kids know so well that they could tell the babysitter what to do. I say this because kids thrive on a consistent routine. It makes them feel secure, which will help them be at peace, which helps them sleep . Print out the bedtime routine above and laminate it, so that your kids can even check it off as they go. This will help a lot at first to establish the routine and help the kids feel involved and excited about it.
2. Stay in control. Kids are notorious for trying to take control without you even knowing it, especially when they don't want to do something, like go to bed. They do this by saying things like, "I'm thirsty, I'm hungry, but I don't want to wear those pajamas." Yes pick your battles, but just don't give them the reins. This guarantees a chaotic environment which will make it difficult for them to fall asleep peacefully.
3. Stick to your word. If you said "you are going to sleep in your bed by yourself" then make sure you follow through on your word. Don't go back and forth. There are so many reasons for this, but mainly your children have to be able to count on your word so they feel secure. Again pick your battles, and yes there are nights, but be consistent. Ask yourself "who's in control? Am I being consistent?"
Love all you Mama's and hope this was helpful! Feel free to share or comment below on something that's worked for you to establish a good bedtime routine or ask or answer questions!
