Faith not Fear

Teach your kids to operate and live through faith not fear. With everything going on in the world today it's so easy for all of us to live in fear and if we're not careful that can easily rub off on our children. The truth is that the Word of God teaches us to live by faith no matter what is going on in the world, and that our God raises up a standard against this worlds darkness. So with all the shootings, hurricanes, crime, hate, and all out crazy people in the world, our God is still bigger and that is what we should magnify when it comes to talking with our children about these things.
In order to do this though we have to have it in our heart first. We have to know and trust God first. The older our kids get and the more aware they become of our reactions and the more we will have to talk to them about everything going on in our world right now. The biggest thing we should magnify is God. Yes, I believe we should be honest with them and age appropriately tell them the details of the events that are happening, but make sure what's magnified is how big our God is and how they can trust him for protection. Teach them the scripture that talks about God's protection in Psalm 91 and get it in their heart at an early age.
In my opinion kids are never too little to learn scripture and to be taught principles from the Word. Even when my 18 month old is scared of a loud noise or something small, I will tell her Jesus' words "Fear not, believe only". We do actions and she repeats after me. It's so powerful even at her little age. It turns her around every time and gets in her heart because the word is alive and living and active, no matter who it is being said to, or who is saying it.
Our kids are so pliable and open hearted to God and to us and it's when they are little that we have to teach them things like faith. We teach them this not only with our Words but also through our actions and reactions to things. They are always watching us and our reaction is almost more important than what we say. So this starts with us getting our lives operating through faith and not fear. If you find yourself living in fear because of the circumstances that happen in our world; I encourage you to dig into the Word of God and renew your mind to faith scriptures. As we do this and model faith to our kids and talk to our kids about faith, the more it will teach them to live by faith!
